Residents of Zuccoli are in for a treat this year with plans for an official opening of a new community shopping village in time for Christmas.

Rod Morris, Managing Director of the owner-‐developers The RR Morriss Group, said he was pleased to announce that construction had commenced on Zuccoli Plaza, which will provide a local commercial centre for people living in Zuccoli.

“The shopping centre will incorporate 14 shops including a supermarket, gym, medical centre, chemist and coffee shop. IGA have already signed with us to provide the supermarket and I am looking forward to announcing the other tenants in the coming weeks,”

Mr Morris said. Zuccoli Plaza is located on the corner of Zuccoli Parade and Crosby Street and connects to The William Kirkby-‐Jones AM Memorial Park. The Park was officially opened by the Chief Minister, The Hon. Adam Giles MLA, in August 2015. The Park was named after Mr Kirkby-‐Jones, who was recognised as one of the great leaders of the housing industry, not only here in the Northern Territory, but also right across the country.

“Cyclists will be able to go for a ride through the park and onto the centre, where we will provide bike racks and a plaza in which to enjoy a morning coffee,” Mr Morris added. “We are keen to create a true community vibe and have plans to incorporate a feature mural into the centre’s design by a local Territory artist,” he said.

Zuccoli Plaza is being constructed by Hutchinson Builders, who are also currently working on the Gateway Shopping Centre in Palmerston, the Woolworths Bakewell Shopping Centre and the Jape Homemaker Village in Millner.

Urbex General Manager Wayne Rex welcomed the news that construction had commenced.

“Zuccoli Plaza is an integral asset to the Zuccoli village,” he said.

“As a master-‐planned community, a major focus of the development is to create a local village feel while delivering amenity and affordability to residents.”

Zuccoli Stage 1 has been developed by Urbex in partnership with the Northern Territory Government’s Land Development Corporation and offers a variety of house and land options catering to all lifestyles and budgets. Upon completion, Zuccoli Stage 1 will contain over 900 homes for more than 2,700 Territorians.

Minister Assisting the Treasurer Nathan Barrett MLA said that the development of the new shopping village at Zuccoli is wonderful news for the local community and a definite, positive sign of the real growth in the area.

“As the Northern Territory Government Minister Assisting the Treasurer, I am delighted to see the continued growth in this area. New shopping centres are always a true indication of prosperity and this development reinforces the Giles Government’s Buy Local Campaign.

“The Giles Government has a plan that secures the future of the Northern Territory. We’re delivering jobs, better services, lower crime rates and a great lifestyle and developments such as these go to that heart of our commitment to all Territorians,” Minister Nathan Barrett said.
