Christmas has come early for Mackay Surf Life Saving Club (MSLSC) as they unveil a world class $3,600 adjustable surf ski ahead of the summer period.
Donated by Dunes Harbour Beach developer, Urbex, the adjustable surf ski will enhance club members’ performance during training sessions and competitions.
MSLSC’s Ski and Board Captain Stephen Bird says a donation of this calibre has immediately boosted efficiency within our club.
“Surf ski paddling is a popular surf sport in Mackay and the new adjustment feature to the ski allows all of our 70 members to use the ski to develop their paddling technique as opposed to purchasing several custom-made skis, to suit various leg lengths, for our members,” Mr Bird said.
Surf ski paddling is a popular sport amongst the MSLSC members especially in the summer months with North Australian Titles completed recently, and the 2022 State and National Title competitions just around the corner.
“Our new surf ski will be utilised for individual, team and mixed training and racing in both short and long-distance competitions from as young as under 17s right through to masters,” Mr Bird said.
“We cannot thank the Urbex team enough for their generous donation to our club. This may not seem like much for some, however, for us, it means we don’t have to purchase a number of new surf skis this summer.”
The surf ski has been donated by Australian developer, Urbex, as part of their contribution to the local community.
