Townsville locals struggling with the tightening rental market may soon find their forever homes in the region’s latest community estate – The Reserve – promising spacious streetscapes, level homesites and open landscape parkland.

With thousands of young families facing the brunt of the state’s growing rental squeeze, the Urbex community estate intends to provide Townsville’s growing population of families an affordable entryway into the tight market.

The estate’s latest release offers a choice of spacious level blocks from 395m2 to 717m2 starting from just $158,000 – prices that have come as welcome reprieve for local couple, Warren and Teresa Merchant.

Having lost their home through no fault of their own, Warren (64 years) and Teresa (49 years) then had to move from their rental properties three times in the last four years, due to the owners of their rental properties wanting to move back in or sell.

Left losing hope about ever owning a home again and worried about their housing security in the rental market, the couple describe the opportunity to secure space within this boutique community as lifechanging.

“It’s just heart-breaking being forced to move. We felt we had made a house into a home, built friendships with the neighbours and were really a part of the community – only to have to leave it all behind,” Teresa said.

“After having to do this over and over, we were so grateful for the opportunity to secure land of our own at a price we could afford as we really didn’t think it would happen for us.

“We are really excited about the prospect that we can settle into this small community as it grows, that it will be one of those friendly social communities where we can walk our dogs, and say hello to each other,”

“It will be our very own place of comfort where both our children and grandchildren can come and stay,” she said.

Sue Bidgood, Urbex Sales Manager for the local Bohle Plains estate supported Warren and Teresa through their purchasing process, and said like them, many other couples who had previously been struggling are finding hope through The Reserve.

“With Townsville currently experiencing low vacancy rates around 0.7%, one of the biggest pain points for locals currently is securing a rental in such tight markets,” Ms Bidgood said.

“The Reserve is aiming to provide a whole lifestyle and community experience at affordable prices, providing the opportunity for local families to finally have a home of their own.

“With Townsville’s growing young population, we are seeing a number of first home buyers jumping at the chance to secure their very first home within The Reserve.

“For families and older couples, whether looking to up or downsize, the estate is well connected to in its location and provides a great opportunity to live in a friendly boutique community. It’s a really promising development for Townsville locals across all walks of life,” she said.

Urbex Project Director, David Argent said outside of the affordable prices, it’s the connection to nature that is enticing many to The Reserve.

“The Reserve really does promise a community renowned for its spacious streetscapes, open landscaped parkland and waterway corridors linked by bike and walking trails,” Mr Argent said.

“There will be a community recreation park with a half–court for the kids to practice, a playground and ample picnic space by the nature reserve for families to enjoy,”

“Urbex has a renowned reputation for creating a true sense of community, and this will be no different. It’s about striking a balance between work and play where you have all the amenities at your doorstep, but a peaceful home environment that feels a world away,” he said.

The Reserve sits just five-minutes-drive from the Willows shopping centre and nearby Cannon Park Entertainment Precinct, which offers cinemas and sporting facilities. It is also a stone’s throw from Willows Golf Resort, Brothers Leagues Club and the Riverway Lagoon.

The Reserve Estate will be open for viewing from this weekend, 4th June, with access to Reserve Drive via Shaw Road. The new onsite Sales and Information Centre will be open this Saturday and Sunday from 1 to 5pm and then Monday to Wednesday 10am to 5pm ongoing.   Enquires can be made onsite or by phoning 07 4723 8933.
