Research indicates young families are choosing their forever home based on the accessibility to work from home and connect with their community.

Figures from the Australian Bureau of Statistics* has shown an increase of 260 per cent of employees that work from home within the Moreton Bay Region, rising from 8,740 people in 2016 to 31,537 people in 2021.

“Connectivity is so important to the work from home movement,” General Manager of Urbex Realty, Craig Covacich, said.

“Individuals and families will now pay a premium for neighbourhoods that are connected to a community with passive and active open spaces. A sense of community is essential.”

As the flexible working arrangements continue to become a priority in many workers’ employment, families have been redesigning their lifestyle to satisfy a work life integration framework.

Couple Katie and Matt Collins lived in an apartment complex in Brisbane’s inner suburb of Nundah before making the move to the bayside to start their family and have more space to work from home.

“We always knew apartment living was temporary and when we went from a family of two to three, it was a no-brainer to move further north for the lifestyle but also the space to accommodate our work from home structure,” Katie said.

As they both work in real estate and from home, the couple purchased a 517m2  block by the lake in Mango Hill in late-2021 to upgrade their work-from-home views from an office wall to overlooking a 12.8-hectare lake.

“We both work from home so decided the lake view was always going to beat any other alternative.”

Their new double storey family home with a built-in office space is in the final stages of its build in the popular master planned community, Capestone in Mango Hill.

“We are beyond excited to walk into our home and sit on the deck for the first time and pinch ourselves that this is our view for our family generally and also as an office.

“The best decision we ever made was to move to the bayside and purchase in Mango Hill. The location is beyond convenient, and the community feel in Capestone is something that never gets old.”

Brisbane family, Rajni and Gitesh Sheh with their two children also made the move to lakeside living after finding themselves wanting a bigger home as their working arrangements turned into full-time working from home.

The family purchased a 451m2 lot and built a 5-bedroom, 3-bathroom home with a dedicated office and north-facing view of the lake.

“We purchased our home in 2020 during COVID when working from home was mandatory, and ever since moving into our home in 2021, we have been working from home ever since,” Rajni said.

“The convenience of working from home, but feeling like you’re not, is a win win.

“The community here at Capestone is second to none and I have even convinced my parents to move here from -overseas to enjoy the relaxed lifestyle we live.”

Both families purchased within tightknit community of Capestone, a development by award-winning developer, Urbex.

The 12-year master planned development is 95 per cent sold, featuring contemporary designer homes surrounded by wide streetscapes and a 12.8-hectare lake with bayside breeze, and is conveniently located in the well-connected corridor of Brisbane’s bayside.
